TDIC, Abu Dhabi’s tourism and development agency wanted to make use of a massive hanger-like structure that had been built to test a section of Jean Nouvel’s magnificent canopy for the new Abu Dhabi Louvre and within it, house a visitor centre and architectural tour. We came up with this solution that incorporates a temporary museum, a research centre, an infinity pool viewing platform and a cinema. A building within a building, it is in fact a series of suspended bridged spaces that allow the visitor to experience the animated, dramatic and constantly changing natural light that is at the heart of Jean Nouvel’s spectacular design for the Louvre.

This hanger-like structure on Saadiyat Island, built to test a section of Jean Nouvel’s roof membrane.
